food and sickness

FOOD AND SICKNESS

It is important to eat good food when we are ill as nutrients from the food will help strengthen our body. When we have fever, we normally eat porridge. This is not a good diet as rice porridge has high content of carbohydrate and less protein, vitamins and minerals. When preparing rice porridge, we have to maximise the nutrients in the porridge. Saute garlic and onion in ghee or oil and add the sauteed oil in the porridge. This method not only gives taste but increases the calorie content.

When we are sick, we need to consume protein food. Some may not be able to eat solid food when they are sick. They can only consume liquid and juices. If you are having this problem, blend a scoop of ice cream or fruits, i.e. papaya, strawberry and other types of fruits with milk.

If you are constantly vomiting due to food poisoning or due to chemotherapy treatment, you have to consume dry food like biscuit and bread. Do not wet the dry food with water or milk as the wetness of the food will create nausea feeling. Those who are nauseating, it is very important to eat small frequent meals to gain sufficient nutrients.

If you are suffering from diarrhoea, make sure you consume lots of fluids. Drink lots of water and soups as you need to replenish the loss of liquid from the body.
