Bitter gourd,பாகற்காய்


Symptoms of diabetes are:
a) Feeling weak
b) Feeling tired
c) Poor virility
d) Low sexual desire

If you are suffering form diabetes and your sugar level has increased, extract the juice from two small bitter gourds and consume the juice. Do not drink the juice everyday and only consume when necessary. Also make sure you consult a physician immediately to check your health conditions.

Cut bitter gourd in round pieces and remove the seeds. Add corn flour and salt and deep fry them if you want to serve to your children. To serve for adults, cut the bitter gourd into small pieces and cook it with tomatoes, tamarind juice and curry powder.

Try to add this vegetable in your diet as least once a week as the bitterness from the bitter gourd prevents stomach and intestines worms and reduces sugar level for diabetic patients. Therefore try to eat food which has 6 types of tastes i.e. bitter, sweet, sour, spicy, salty and astringent as the nutrients from these foods are needed to maintain a good health.

10th MARCH 09: IVY GOURD LEAVES (Kovai Keerai)

Ivy gourd leaves cannot be obtained from the market and are very effective in treating excessive heat in the anus are. If your have the plant growing around your house area, try to add the leaves in your diet. Cook it like you are cooking Indian spinach (pasalai keerai) or add the leaves when preparing any types of soup.

The leaves are effective in healing boils in the anal canal.
a) Apply a few drops of castor oil and gently heat the oiled leaves.
b) Place the leaves below the anus.

The leaves will kill the bacteria and transforms it to pus. The boils will heal once the pus matures and oozes out voluntarily. Since the vegetable is a cooling food, try to eat this vegetable once a week. You will be free of piles problems. The vegetable will ease bowel motion and helps cool the body.

5th JAN 09: RICE Parboiled Rice Paddy (raw rice) which is boiled and grinded is called par boiled rice. Par boiled rice has more nutrients as the skin is not completely removed. Parboiled rice has more fiber and less carbohydrate.White Rice Paddy which has been completely processed and its entire skin removed is called white rice. Sticky Rice/Glutinous Rice Sticky rice can be eaten in a healthy way by steaming or boiling the rice. Then add grated coconut and brown sugar. Diabetic patients can omit sugar when preparing this dish. Champa Rice This rice is difficult to obtain in Malaysia and it has many medicinal values. ��Aval�� (Beaten Rice/Poha) ��Aval�� can be prepared the same way as sticky rice described above. ��Aval�� is very easy and fast to prepare and can be eaten during breakfast or as a snack. Rice flour Consuming too much food made from rice flour can lead to Diabetes. Therefore it is advisable to avoid eating too much food made from rice flour.
